This six-episode docushows captures the history of surfing on the west coast of the island of Tenerife.
“History of Surfing: Playa de las Américas, Tenerife” is a six-episode series filmed at the main spots on the island, especially from Playa de las Américas in the town of Arona.
Throughout the six episodes, we will learn, travel, and surf alongside some of the key figures in surfing on the Canary island, which is one of the most traditional surfing destinations in continental Europe: Tenerife.

01 The Germ
Between 1964 and 1965, and starting in 1970, the world of surfing began to take root in the Canary Islands, particularly in Tenerife. In this first chapter, we will learn about the beginnings of surfing on the island through the experiences of some of the pioneers of this beach.
02 The Culture of Surfing
In chapter two, we stay on the island of Tenerife, and this time we want to learn how surfing expanded, who the people were that embraced that legacy, and how the culture linked to surfing deeply took root on the Canary island.
03 Tourist Development
In chapter three, we will explore the development and expansion of tourism in Tenerife, specifically in the Las Américas area, and discover how surfing and tourism have been coming together, as they still have a long journey ahead.
04 The island
In the fourth chapter, we will discover the different facets, activities, cultures, and gastronomy of the island of Tenerife, as well as the connection of this place to surfing.
05 The professionalization of Surfing
The professionalization of surfing in Tenerife and the Canary Islands is advancing strongly, attracting more talent and support.
